News Item

News item is one type of "text" that can lead us to become a reliable journalist. By studying this text, we have at least practiced to be able to write like a professional news writer.

News item is a text which informs readers about events of the day. The events are considered newsworthy or important. That is, if there is an important event that should be known by many people, then this event deserves to be made news. Well, that news text is called a news item. However, if there are events that do not deserve to be known by many people, then those events are definitely not newsworthy.


Generic Structure of News Items

There are three general arrangements in writing news items, here is the generic structure of News items:
Main Events: The main events that deserve news. Elaboration: An explanation of the background of the event; the people involved in the incident; the place where the incident occurred; and others..
Resource of Information [Source] : News source; witness comments; expert opinion; and others.

News Item Features

There are many common features of news item text; The most prominent feature is that the language is concise and not long-winded. A few more include:
1. Often use action verbs
2. Dominant use saying verbs
3. Many use adverb of time, adverb of place, adverb of manner.
Notes :
Action verbs are verbs that show activity.
Saying verbs such as "reported, said, quoted, said, preached, quoted".




Example News Item 

Pamekasan student wins math contest in Romania Alyssa Diva Mustika, a student from Pamekasan Junior High School, East Java, won the gold medal at the International Mathematics Contest held in Romania between March 22 to 29, Antara news agency reported. Speaking to journalists, Diva said she was glad that she had been able to win the competition, which she said had been very tight. 

“Thank God I won. I will study harder,” she said. Indonesia sent 10 students to the competition in Romania. Diva is not the first Pamekasan student to win an international science competition. Oktavian Latief, a student from SMA Negeri 1 Pamekasan won gold at the International Physics Olympiad in 2006. Another student, Shohibul Maromi, won the same award in 2010. “I thank Diva for giving a good name to Indonesia and Pamekasan on the international stage,” Pamekasan Regent Kholilurrahman said as quoted by Antara.


ABOUT MY TEST :

On Wednesday, I did my fourth daily assessment. The material I do is a news item and the problem is also quite difficult. After I finished working on it, the results I got were less than satisfactory by only getting a score of 60. 





As a result, I tried to do it again until I understood the answer to the question. Finally, I got the perfect score!
